Individuals/groups are eligible candidates for all the prizes below.
(1) Academic Prize:
To be presented to one or two individuals or organizations that have made outstanding achievements in the field of Asian studies such as the social and human sciences, contributing to the worldfs understanding of Asia, and whose great contributions are further expected in the future.
(Prize money: 3 million yen)
(2) Arts and Culture Prize:
To be presented to one or two individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contribution to the cultivation and/or advancement of the unique and diverse arts and culture of Asia, and whose great contributions are further expected in the future. The term earts and culturef here implies a wide range of fields including the fine arts, literature, music, drama, dance, film, architecture, traditional and ethnic culture, and so forth.
(Prize money: 3 million yen)
(3) Grand Prize:
To be presented to an individual or an organization in either the field of academics or arts and culture. The laureate must have made outstanding contributions to the preservation and creation of Asian unique and diverse cultures, and have exhibited the significance of Asian culture to the world through the internationality, universality, popularity and/or creativity of their work.
(Prize money: 5 million yen)


* The nominations should only be made for living persons.
* The term eAsiaf here implies areas including East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia
(any regions located to the east of Pakistan).


* Please nominate candidates for (1) and (2) respectively. The laureate for (3) will be selected by the Fukuoka Prize Jury from among all the candidates nominated for (1) and (2).
The laureates for the Grand Prize will be selected among all candidates nominated for the two prizes.


* One nominator can make a maximum of 2 nominations for each category ((1) and (2)).


* Please fill in the attached nomination form in either English or Japanese.

(1) Nominators are expected to seek candidates not only within their home region, but also from abroad.
(2) Even in the case that you have received this request as a representative of an organization, we would like to ask you to complete the forms under a name of an individual.
(3) Self-nomination is not permitted.

(i)

All the documents submitted to the committee will not be returned to the nominators unless requested.

(ii) As for the information on the nominees the committee shall keep its confidentiality. The committee will not respond to any inquiries during the selection process.
(iii) Nominators are requested to keep their nominations confidential.
(iv)

The final results of the selection will be sent to the nominators at a later time. For the Fukuoka Prize 2009, the committee will hold the award ceremony in September.
